"this is the very definition of assistive technology, and offers that extra level of capability"
We’ve been experimenting with a few different systems ranging from the ‘off the shelf’ items like Sensibo and Google Home (both of which you can purchase from us using your NDIS funding) through to the ‘full on’ integrated electrical systems available from some of the larger manufacturers. Earlier this week we took it a step further and had the Netatmo by LeGrand system installed here at the office.
For those of you who have never looked at these systems with any great detail, the basic premise of it is that your existing switches and sockets are either replaced or modified to allow control of their functions by another means – in Netatmo’s case there is an App you can download on your Smartphone, or you can take it a step further and integrate it with your Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa. This means that instead of having to physically operate a switch, you can control these devices or functions from your phone or your Assistant via your voice. The switch on the wall still works as normal, but you don’t have to use it if you can’t or don’t want to – perfect for clients who might not have the hand function or capability to use or reach, or even if you require control of things at home before you get there, such as lights or air conditioners – even the TV. There’s a range of components including light switches, dimmers, power points and even controllers for blinds and curtains, meaning you can control just about every aspect of your home or work environment.
So what does this mean for our clients? One of the things we get really excited about here is the ability to provide our clients with new ways of doing things, and in this case we are able to work with clients to have these systems installed into their existing homes and offer that extra level of capability.
If you’re out and about and the weather turns bad, you can have the air con going before you get back to keep your house at the right temperature.
If you’re coming home in the dark, you can turn the lights on before you even get to the gate without having to fumble for a torch or other light source, and if you’re worried you have left the kettle on you can turn it off from wherever you are, just by using your phone or voice.
To us, this is the very definition of assistive technology and we’re thrilled to be able to not only show you how it works, but also work with you to get it setup and installed into your own home.
And of course, the next question is how much? Compared to some of the products we’ve seen, the Netatmo system is really well priced, and we’re working on getting the range listed in our online store for purchase from an NDIS Registered Provider. We’re also going to offer completely free consultations and inspections of your home to see exactly what you may need in terms of install, as well as full backup support. Because this product is manufactured by LeGrand, you also get the benefit of years of experience and exceptional support behind each and every single product they supply – and for this reason we feel it’s worth our clients’ time and consideration.
There is lots more info to come on this, but in the meantime if you’re interested get in touch, or better still call in to our office and we’ll show you how it works. You’ll be amazed at how easy it is.
